There are several options for States Night Out that include:

Area shops and galleries on Lewisburg’s main street also plan to remain open for shopping and exploring during the evening hours. 
• Make a reservation at one of two restaurants in White Sulphur Springs, a 5-10 drive from The Greenbrier.

In addition to dining out, there is an opportunity to see a musical at the Greenbrier Valley Theatre titled, “The Greenbrier Ghost” (address: 1038 Washington Street E Lewisburg, WV 24901; website https://www.gvtheatre.org The Theatre will open on Wednesday, November 6th for a 7:30 pm show of their running production for our conference attendees. Any states interested in attending the musical should reserve early seating for dinner. The musical production is by Cathey C. Sawyer and Joe Buttram, Musical Arrangements by Jeremy Fenn-Smith. Description - The year is 1896 and newlywed Zona Heaster has been found dead. Her death is officially ruled as an “everlasting faint” but her mother Mary Jane knows better, and Zona’s ghost will help her prove it. A local legend, the trial went down in history as the only trial won based on the testimony of a ghost. Musical prices for our attendees are:

Here are some tips for planning for your trip to The Greenbrier.

• Register during Early Bird Registration to get the best discount. Dates will be released later this spring.
• Book a room or cottage with a colleague and split the cost. Free shuttle service is provided from estate homes and cottages to the main hotel.
• Look at your budget and decide if your registration and lodging fees would fit better into this fiscal year or next year.
• Take advantage of amenities and activities included in your lodging, like morning coffee service and afternoon tea in the Upper Lobby of The Greenbrier.

LOST WORLD CAVERNS - CAVE TOURS IN WEST VIRGINIA

Descend 120 feet below the Earth’s surface into a vast wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Lost World Caverns, discovered in 1942, is a truly magical place for explorers of all ages. Located in Lewisburg, the caverns take approximately 45 minutes to walk through and offer self-guided tours. Information signs provide details about the many different formations on the half-mile loop trail. No matter the temperature on the outside, the cave always remains a constant 52 degrees. A light jacket and good shoes are recommended.

NORTH HOUSE MUSEUM

Explore the lives of Greenbrier Valley residents at the North House Museum in Lewisburg. Built in 1820, the North House was the home of local lawyer John North and his wife Charlotte for more than a decade before becoming James Frazier’s Star Tavern and Inn. At the turn of the 20th century, the North House became the home of Dr. Robert Telford, President of the Greenbrier College for Women. The Greenbrier Historical Society has operated within the North House since 1976 and has owned the building since 1992. Today, the museum’s permanent displays and temporary exhibits feature items from across the Greenbrier Valley, including the training saddle of General Robert E. Lee’s horse, Traveller, an 18th century covered wagon, Civil War artifacts, and furniture made by local craftsman David Surbaugh, as well as original items from the North family. From early settlements to the Civil War and beyond, the lives of everyday Americans can be experienced at the North House Museum.

TAKE A BREAK IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS! - GREENBRIER RIVER TRAIL

 The Greenbrier River Trail is a 78-mile former railroad now used for hiking, biking and horseback riding. It is the longest trail of its kind in West Virginia. The trail provides many breathtaking views as it passes through several small towns, crosses 35 bridges, goes through two tunnels and cuts through some of West Virginia’s most remote areas. The Greenbrier River Trail is one of 50 Millennium Legacy Trails in the United States, and was rated one of the top 10 hiking trails in the country by Backpacker Magazine. Part of the Greenbrier River Trail lies within a National Radio Quiet Zone so cell phones do not work. There are multiple ways to enjoy the outdoors, such as, biking, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. The start of the trail is a short distance by car from The Greenbrier.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT! THE NEW RIVER GORGE NATIONAL PARK

NPOLAR EXPRESS - THE DURBIN & GREENBRIER VALLEY RAILROAD

The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad provides THE POLAR EXPRESS™ officially licensed train rides in Elkins, West Virginia. CRANBERRY GLADES & NATURE CENTER

Walk the half-mile boardwalk and explore the unique plant species that surround the Cranberry Glades Boardwalk. Stop in and experience the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center, where you can learn more about what makes the area similar to bogs located in areas of the Northern Tundra. Option 1: Fruits of Labor Recovery Program Fruits of Labor is where the fruits of the earth meet the fruit of the spirit. Fruits of Labor’s mission is to develop a sustainable agricultural model to inspire small Appalachian farms to realize a profit in food production while retaining the environmental integrity of the land for future generations. Fruits of Labor also works with the Greenbrier County Drug Court to provide culinary training so that they can experience the complete cycle of food production and a spiritual journey for others. Learn how one woman turned something as simple as growing a tomato to giving others a second chance at life. There is also a retreat center which provides a peaceful, natural environment for visitors to come rest, restore, and renew. The seminar will include a tour of the Bakery and training Café, presentation, and demonstration. http://fruitsoflaborinc.com/cafe--bakery.html  

Option 3: Greenbank Observatory and Skynet Junior Scholars

The Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT) in Green Bank, West Virginia, US is the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope. The Green Bank site was part of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) until September 30, 2016, and currently serves as the Green Bank Observatory. During this Seminar -On-Wheels, participants will spend the morning exploring the telescope and control rooms where SETI research got its start. After lunch, participants will be trained in the Skynet Junior Scholars 4-H Project Book, a new national curriculum that provides youth with hands-on astronomy activities as well as investigations using research-grade, remotely located, Internet-controlled telescopes. https://greenbankobservatory.org/
